Bike parts

There are no complete bikes in BMX 2000. Every bike in your garage is built from parts you’ve unlocked, one per slot, and you can keep several builds (a modern street bike, a race bike, an 80s freestyler) and switch between them. Parts of any line fit together, so an old-school frame can run modern pegs.

Traits

Every part has real-world specs and the game rides them: weight and rotating weight, gearing, tire width, pressure, tread and casing, the brake, and frame and fork geometry. The shop sums that up in four traits, each a % against the stock bike, which rides with the default handling. The swings are small on purpose. Finishes and paint are cosmetic.

TraitWhat it isRange in the shopBiggest gains
SpeedHow quickly the bike gets going and how fast it goes under pedal power.Pace, % against the stock bike: 0.6 × acceleration + 0.4 × sprint speed + 0.1 × rolling resistance saved. −7% to +3% tires +3% and frames +1%
PopHow high your hops, bunny hops and pops off lips go.Hop height, % against the stock bike (the bike and 60% of the rider are lifted). −2% to +2% frames +2%, forks +1% and rear wheels +1%
GripHow hard the tires bite before they slide.Tyre grip on hard ground, % against the stock bike. −3% to +3% tires +3%
ControlHow hard the bike stops and how it answers the bars.Braking and steering, % against the stock bike (their mean). −3% to +5% brakes +5% and frames +2%

What goes into them

AccelerationDrive force over the mass it moves: the rider, the bike and its rims and tyres again, and the gear.
Sprint speedThe speeds the pedals reach: a taller gear (gear inches) a little higher; a gear that spins out (190 rpm short of the sprint) lower.
HopHop height: the rider's work over the bike plus 60% of the rider.
GripTyre width, pressure and tread on hard ground.
Rolling resistanceTyre pressure, casing and tread (lower rolls further).
BrakingThe brake fitted, against brakeless (skids and foot-jams).
SteeringHow far the fork turns below the grip limit: a shorter wheelbase (top tube, stays, fork offset) and a steeper head angle turn quicker.
